REFUGIO – The Refugio Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for a rash of thefts and criminal mischief, said Police Chief Andy Lopez Jr.

Lopez said the theft and criminal mischief have been going on for about three weeks, and the suspect or suspects are believed to be prowling during nighttime hours.

The suspects take advantage of residents who leave their vehicles unlocked in their parkway.

“These persons are rummaging through vehicles, taking personal belongings and eventually resorting to vandalizing the vehicles,” Lopez said.

The Refugio Police Department is now asking residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or people lurking about.

“The reward might deter the suspects,” Lopez said. “We need any help we can get and are willing to pay that reward. We want to put an end to this,” he said.

Anyone having information and wanting the reward will be required to make the information known to the Refugio Police Department by phoning 361-526-4533.
