REFUGIO COUNTY – An Odem man died in a two-vehicle accident Thursday, Oct. 31, five miles north of Refugio on U.S. Highway 183, according to Department of Public Safety Senior Cpl. Charlie Ramirez.

Jose Isabel Salazar, 53, perished when a tractor-trailer rig crossed over into his lanes at 5:15 a.m. and collided with Salazar’s 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.

Wallace Ray Torrance of Fort Worth was the driver of the 2006 freight tractor trailer headed southbound when his vehicle crossed over into the northbound lanes.

The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 75 mph, Ramirez said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Emi Riemenschneider.

Salazar’s body was taken to Moore’s Funeral Home in Refugio.
