WOODSBORO – The Woodsboro City Council unanimously approved adopting the effective tax rate to support the city’s 2013 budget Tuesday evening, Sept. 3.

The effective tax rate approved was 73.52 cents for every $100 of property value. Last year’s tax rate was 75.44 cents for every $100 property value

Although the tax rate is lower, the effective rate will generate the same revenue as last year.

The council also approved adopting discounts for early tax payments in October, November and December.

The council also approved the $699.99 purchase of a surveillance camera system for City Hall and immediate area.

The money for the camera system will come from the Building and Security Fund.

And the council approved the $6,425 purchase of a booster pump to replace booster pump No. 1.

The council also approved the $913.50 purchase of mosquito spray.

The council also approved the repaving of Celia Street and Holmes Street. The materials already had been approved, so the cost of the street projects will be for the diesel to fuel the equipment.

The council also approved the purchase of 12 signs that would say “Slow - Children playing” for residential streets where vehicles have been speeding.
