The Refugio Junior League Rangers completed their undefeated regular season by going 12-0.
Regular season opponents were Sinton, Mathis, Taft and Odem.
The Refugio All-Stars consisted of Matthew Linney, Chris Moya, Anthony Delgado, Cipriano Solis, Jacobe Avery, Robert Ortiz, Jordan Martinez, Jaylon Mascorro, Trace Mascorro, Dakota Goode, and Austin Moya. Coaches were Ryan Linney and Frank Solis. Manager was Norman Moya.
The District Tournament was held in Sinton with 12 teams participating.
The Refugio squad won the first three games they played before losing to a tough Beeville squad.
With their backs against the wall and facing elimination, Refugio bounced back and eliminated Ingleside before having to face Beeville again. Refugio defeated Beeville twice to win the tournament.
At the Sectional Tournament held in Richmond, the Refugio All Stars had to defeat three teams to win the tournament.
The first game against Victoria East, Refugio won 13-8 to move into the next round.
Refugio’s next opponent was El Campo. Good hitting and excellent defense prevailed and Refugio won 5-1.
The next game, with the championship on the line, was against the Shiner All Stars. Refugio scored in the bottom of the 7th inning to force extra innings. A base hit scored the winning run and sealed the win and the championship for Refugio.
The Refugio All-Stars made history as the only Junior League team from Refugio to ever make the State Tournament.
At the State Tournament in Tyler, Refugio’s first game was against the Channelview All Stars. Refugio’s bats were hot early as they broke out to a 15-2 lead when the game was halted by lightning.
When the game resumed, Refugio put away Channelview by a score of 19-10.
The second game was against West University of Houston. Good pitching and good hitting kept Refugio off balance and West University went on to win 5-1. The next game was an elimination game and Rose Capital East (Tyler) was too much for the Refugio squad, winning 14-4. Refugio ends the tournament in 3rd place.
Refugio ended their season at 21-3.
