REFUGIO COUNTY – A dark blue Ford Expedition ended up on its side about 12 miles north of Refugio in the U.S Highway 77 median after an apparent blowout on Thursday, Aug. 1.

The four people inside the Expedition were uninjured in the accident.

At about 3 p.m., the Expedition was traveling north in the right lane of U.S. Highway 77 when it had the blowout of its right-rear tire. The vehicle veered to the left lane and into the median, traveling about 20 yards before flipping on its side, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Billy Mora.

The vehicle almost made it into the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 77.

The driver of the Expedition was Estefana Leal, 47, of Houston, according to DPS Trooper Andrew Smith.

The driver’s passengers were 12-year-old Yayoni Leal, 6-year-old Jesus Leal and 8-year-old Derek Leal, all of Houston.

In addition to the DPS, Refugio County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Refugio Volunteer Fire Department and Refugio County emergency medical personnel were at the scene.

Milton’s wrecker service towed the Expedition from the scene.
