Fannin United Methodist announces new pastor

FANNIN – Fannin United Methodist Church announced the arrival of its new pastor, Dr. Ileen Ferguson Foley, her husband, Dr. Roy Foley, and her mother, Alice Butler Ferguson of Victoria.

Pastor Foley is a native Texan and has been in the Victoria area for most of her life. She graduated from F.W. Gross High School in Victoria and earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Sociology from Victoria College in 1968.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1974, a Master’s Degree from the University of Houston-Victoria in Curriculum and Instruction in 1977, and her Doctorate in Education in 1999 from the University of Houston in Houston.

Pastor Foley’s professional career covered areas in the educational field from classroom teacher, district curriculum coordinator, elementary assistant principal, elementary principal and central office director of assessment and program evaluation.

While working with Victoria ISD, Pastor Foley also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston-Victoria.

Pastor Foley has served the United Methodist Church at the local, district and conference level. She has served locally as superintendent of Sunday School, chairman of Christian education, lay leader, church, council chairman and lay delegate to the annual conference.

Pastor Foley has also served on the District Superintendent Committee, the District Board of Laity and as an advanced lay speaker for 10 years as well as currently serving on the Conference Council for Older Adult Ministries.

As a retired educator and new pastor, Dr. Foley has continued to be involved in her community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Coast Family Services, is a member of the Northside Rotary and the Women in Partnership for Progress, has been a prior President of the Board of Directors of Hospice of South Texas as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and American Red Cross.

Pastor Foley will be beginning her fourth year as a licensed local pastor. She has served as the pastor of Stevens Chapel UMC in Schulenburg as well as at the Genesis Center UMC in Victoria.

As of July, Dr. Foley was appointed as pastor of Fannin United Methodist Church and will serve only Fannin. For many years, Fannin UMC has had to have a shared pastor with Telferner.

Pastor Foley is working with the Totally Tuesday Program, which is for children on Tuesday afternoons after school, as well as getting involved on the second Thursday of the month with the Fannin United Methodist Church Food Pantry and Outreach Program.

The Totally Tuesday Program is sponsored by Fannin UMC and is for young children to receive Christian fellowship, Bible lesson and an after- school snack.

The Fannin Food Pantry and Outreach Program is a 501(c) program and, through donations from individuals and organizations in Goliad County, it is able to serve over 120 families within, Fannin, Schroeder, Cologne, Berclair and rural Goliad County by providing a bag of groceries once a month and assisting those in the county with other basic needs on an individual basis.

The Fannin United Methodist Church holds its Sunday service from 9 to 10 a.m. and is followed by fellowship at 10 a.m.
