KINGSVILLE – Parents of first-generation college students who will be enrolled at Texas A&M University-Kingsville this fall now have the opportunity to receive a firsthand look at life as a college student during the 2nd Parent College on the A&M-Kingsville campus July 26-27.

This is a free event.

Eligible parents are those who have not had college experience. Interested parents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as space is limited and acceptances are on a first-come/first-serve basis. Final deadline is Friday, July 19.

The event allows parents to experience everything from stopping by the Javelina Dining Hall for dinner and spending the night in the university’s Mesquite Village Residence Hall, to touring the campus, visiting with university administrators and sitting-in on some college math, English and biology classes.

“We want them to have a sense of what it will be like for their students and to give them some resources so they can help them succeed,” said Dr. Susan Roberson, assistant dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.

Interested parents should contact Dr. Marcy Tucker by email at marsha.tucker@tamuk.edu or 361-593-2395 or 361-593-2316 to request an application and to add their names to the list of participants.
