The Beeville squad was down 7-1 after three innings to the Orange Grove Bulldog team in an elimination game. The OG squad exploded for five runs in the top of the third after taking a 2-1 lead in the second.
The Bulldog pitching blanked the hometown team in the second and third frames but did give up one run in the fourth to make it a 7-2 contest heading into the final couple of innings of regulation.
Beeville’s runs were scored by Lazzaro Garcia, who doubled to open the first inning for the Beeville team and was knocked in on a ground-out off the bat of Sebastian Arrisola one out later. The run in the fourth was scored by Ayden Burkett after he had reached after being hit by a pitch. A walk to Bryan Ramsey followed, and the guys moved up on a passed ball to get into scoring position. A single by Isiah Carrizales got the runner home to make it a 7-2 game.
The bottom of the fifth gave the Beeville team some hope. The Orange Grove pitching finally buckled and gave up six walks, one hit batsman and a double by Arrisola to add five big runs to the Beeville side of the scoreboard. It was a new ball game at 7-7 heading into the sixth.
Both teams threatened in the sixth but good defensive plays by both kept the scoreboard quiet, so it was on to extra innings.
OG got a single to lead off the seventh. Another base runner was added on a hit batsman and then a bases-clearing triple put the Bulldogs in front 9-7. The Beeville boys had to plate at least two runners to tie and three to win in the bottom of the seventh.
The pitching again failed the visitors as the Bulldog hurlers issued six walks to the next seven batters, forcing in three runs to end the game with the Beeville boys on top, 10-9.
Jacob Salazar, Edward Soto and Isaiah Thomas scored for Beeville in the inning. Jaydon Maldonado, Lazzaro Garcia and Devin Smith picked up the RBIs by being patient at the plate and working for their free passes.
The win keeps the Beeville minor boys in the tournament, and they played again Wednesday night vs. Mathis.
