Ruby Lee Payne, 86, of Three Rivers died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at a local hospital in Jourdanton, following a short illness.

Mrs. Payne was born July 26, 1926, in Hico to Archie and Lydia (St. Clair) Samford. She married James Allen Payne and was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Payne, a son, Thomas Ray Stark; her parents, Archie and Lydia Samford; seven brothers, Elton, Alva, Charlie, Noyle, Wilmeth, Wesley and Archie Meade Samford; and four sisters Ala Hicks, Leota Rathke, Mary Lou Hale and Mary Etta Bateman.

Survivors include four daughters, Karen L. Brown of Austin, Nancy J. (Mike) Coquat and Sharon L. Jones, both of Three Rivers, and Rita K. (Allen) Trojcak of Refugio; four sons, Fred W. (Christine) Stark of Beeville, Earl W. (Linda) Stark of West Columbia, James K. (Monica) Stark of Tuleta and Roy Allen Payne of Woodsboro; a sister, Margaret (Nathan) Crisp of New Braunfels; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons: William Allan Stark, Bobby Heathcoe, Wesley Stark Kolb, James Tré Coquat, Cameron Allen Payne, Lance Allen Trojcak, Stephen Ray Jones, Keith Ray Stark, Joshua Douglas Jones, Christopher Troy Stark, and Trenton Allen Payne.
