Readers, are you ready? It's getting close to that time of year again, yes, the Summer Reading Club at the Falls City Public Library. You're invited to join the fun and "Dig Into Reading" for the chance to win prizes and earn a certificate of achievement. This year, the Reading Club is being sponsored by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), whose purpose is to procure materials for a flexible summer library program.

The goals of the Reading Club are to encourage children and families to read for pleasure, to help children maintain and improve their reading skills, to encourage them to become lifelong readers and library users. Research shows that when children have the freedom to select books that they want to read, it helps them to establish a good foundation for academic success. The Summer Reading Club is self-paced and children can earn a certificate, as well as win incentive prizes for the number of books they read. At the Falls City Public Library, children ages 4 through 2nd grade must read at least ten books, and older kids in grades 3 through 6 must read five books with at least 40 pages to get their certificates. The library has several activities planned including story times and arts and crafts. They have also scheduled a visit from the Texas State Aquarium who will do a program on alligators and they will be bringing a live 'gator with them. Back by popular demand is Spikey Mikey the Magician with his I Love to Read magic show.

Registration for the Reading Club begins on Tuesday, May 28 and that day also marks the official opening of the program. The last day to count books for certificates will be June 27 and certificates and door prizes will be awarded on Friday, June 28. For a more detailed schedule, contact the Falls City Public Library at 830-254-3361, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Mutz and Mrs. Ermis are looking forward to a great summer of reading fun.
