REFUGIO – Refugio Lady Cats and San Diego lit up the scoreboard on Friday, May 3 as they combined for 21 runs. In the end, Refugio Lady Cats won the offensive battle 12-9 in seven innings.

The teams totaled 18 hits, including seven extra base hits in the game. Morgan Klaevemann boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace Refugio Lady Cats. She singled in the third inning and doubled in the first and fifth innings.

The top of the first saw Refugio Lady Cats take an early lead, 3-0. Refugio Lady Cats got things going when Klaevemann doubled. A stolen base then moved Klaevemann from second to third. Michelle Rosas tripled, scoring Klaevemann and Kiasha Brown. The scoreboard lit up again for Refugio Lady Cats when Rosas scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackie Gonzalez. San Diego scored five runs of its own in the second. San Diego scored on an RBI single by Bianca Alaniz, an error, a hit by pitch, and a two-run double by Kayla Oliveira.

Refugio Lady Cats stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Klaevemann and an RBI triple by Shaylan Brown. San Diego matched its one-run third inning with one more in the sixth. In the third, San Diego scored on an RBI double by Sirena Martinez, plating Megan Cadena.

Refugio Lady Cats built upon its lead with two runs in the fifth. Klaevemann started the inning with a double, bringing home Shaylan Brown.
