“We started out pretty solid. We limited the damage early and had opportunities to score and take control of the game,” said head coach Cody Fields.
“We couldn’t find the big hit when we needed it.
Freer opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first, but the Bobcats tied things back up in the home half of the second inning.
It was still tied at one all entering the top of the fifth. Freer pushed across two runs to regain the lead and left it up to their pitching the rest of the way. The Bobcat bats were silent, getting just one hit on the night. Freer added single runs in the sixth and seventh to make the final a 5-1 victory.
Aaron Hughes pitched six innings for the Bobcats, giving up four earned runs and striking out four Buckaroos. Jonathan Hernandez pitched one inning, giving up one earned run. Hughes went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI single that plated Myles Bloemer for the only S-T run.
“Freer is a solid team, and we let them hang around too long. If we were able to scratch out a run or two early, I think we could have gotten away with a win. All in all, it was a solid performance to end the season,” Fields said.
“We know what we need to work on and have an idea of where we want to go for next year and beyond. It was a pleasure coaching this group of seniors.”
