SAN DIEGO – An early Skidmore-Tynan lead on the diamond did not hold up as the hot hitting Vaqueros blasted their way to a 15-4 victory over the Bobcats on Tuesday night.

“We jumped out early. We got two quick outs in the second and then the wheels came off. We made a few errors, and it cost us the momentum,” said S-T head coach Cody Fields.

“We couldn’t recover from that point.”

The Bobcats scored twice in the top of the first and held the home team to a single run for the early 2-1 lead over the Vaqueros. The S-T boys stretched the lead to two runs by adding a single score in the second, but the San Diego bats came alive in the bottom of the frame.

Six Vaqueros made it all the way around the bases in the inning to put the home team on top to stay. San Diego led, 7-3, after two innings of play. Both teams’ pitching settled for a couple of innings and held the scoring as it was.

In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats added one run to make it a 7-4 contest. The home team answered with a three-run frame and then exploded for five big runs in the sixth to put the game away via the 10-run rule.

Jonathan Hernandez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up just five earned runs and struck out six Vaqueros. The home team took advantage of several S-T errors in notching the victory.

Skidmore’s TJ Amador went 2-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Kyle Nelson, Caleb Davis and Aaron Hughes also picked up hits.

“We had a few different guys have good games individually, but we need to come together Friday and have a good game as a team. It would be nice to send the seniors off with a win at home,” Fields said.

The Bobcats closed their season at home against Freer on Friday night.
