Got another City shock!

I just got the utility bill for this month and guess what? My water bill increased by $4.50 from last month. Now we are on the cuff for an extra fee for park, fire and waste administration. The only problem is that all these additional fees are already covered by our city taxes.

On Oct. 17, 2012, in the Bee Picayune, the City of Beeville advertised a City Meeting for Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at the council chambers to consider rate and fee increases. During the meeting, the council went into executive session to discuss the rate and fee increases. So how can this be okay if the public was not involved? Where is the transparency of our local government?

The City Council and administration ends up costing the residents and taxpayers of the county more money every time they go into executive session without an explanation of the cost of the items discussed behind close doors.

So, I am assuming that all these increases on rates and fees are due to the fact that City Hall has more employees to help the current employees already working there. Example: the city manager has an assistant and a consultant that has no interest in Beeville to consult the city manager. A deputy city secretary for the city secretary and a secretary for both the city secretary and city deputy secretary, plus the retired city secretary as a consultant for civil services and to advise the city secretary on the back log that was left behind. Now, City Hall needs two city inspectors to inspect all construction projects.

I do not have all the solutions, but I believe we need to eliminate or restructure the City Hall staffing.
