It seems like your Karnes City Community Chamber of Commerce gets busier and busier every week. And, this past week hasn’t been any different. As an example, yesterday our Chamber President Wish Taylor and I attended a roundtable discussion group in Gonzales with at least seven other Chamber of Commerce presidents and representatives in attendance. We had been invited by the Gonzales Chamber Director Barbara Hand to join her and the others for lunch and discussion about how we can work together as a team to get more things done, more efficiently. It seems all who were there are dealing with many of the same issues that we are. When growth of cities occurs it affects all levels of a community.

One of the neat things about the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce is that it is located in what once was the original County Jail that was there during all of the historic days and years in the past. Part of it is now a Museum as well. And this meeting was just a beginning to share not only our past histories but also our happenings now and in the future. One of the goals set at this meeting is to start communicating with our public including having a page on Facebook. Tom Shaw, President of South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Omar Garcia, President & CEO of South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (aka STEER) were the main presenters at this meeting. And with their knowledge of keeping up with the growth and changes that we know are happening, it really seems to help and see it as a reality we all need to help each other with.

And, in order to keep all informed of happenings in our Karnes City area, we want to remind you of the upcoming 2nd Friday Breakfast this Friday, April 12 at Jerry B’s Restaurant at the usual time, 7 a.m. and also the Grand Opening of the Stripes Service Station the same day at 12 noon. All are welcome to both evens. And next month, on Saturday, May 4, be sure and mark your calendar to attend the 2nd Annual Karnes City Family Fun Day in Karnes City Park beginning at 9 a.m. For more details, come by or call your Chamber of Commerce office.

So because of things like those mentioned above, we hope to see you soon. ‘Til next time, Cathy Passmore.
