Tenor Austin Dean will present a selection of classical, pop, opera, musical theater and gospel music for the Beeville Concert Association’s next program Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Performing Arts Auditorium at Coastal Bend College.

His program includes classical songs by Beethoven and Schumann, selections from Broadway musicals “South Pacific” and “Les Miserables,” songs from Shakespeare texts, and well-known gospel hymns, “Deep River” and “Were You There?”

A native of Baytown, the talented young music education major at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston made his professional dramatic music debut last year in a principal role for the Houston Grand Opera production of “Dead Man Walking.” He also has sung in a number of musical productions at UH, at Bellaire and Houston churches, and at a choral competition in Tours, France.

Dean will perform in Germany this May with the University of Houston’s Concert Chorale.

He has served as interim director of music at Christchurch Presbyterian Church in Bellaire and tenor section leader at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church.

Sunday’s performance is free to all students through high school age, to any adult who brings two students and to CBC students with their photo IDs. Other adults will pay $10 at the door if they do not hold BCA season tickets.
