The Lions would be looking to stay perfect in district at 5-0 and indeed did as they defeated the Bulldogs 19-4 behind a 1 hit performance on the mound by Senior Isaac Cruz.
Cruz would have some trouble finding the strike zone as he walked 8 and hit 1 in the four unearned runs that he gave up while striking out 12 in 6 innings on the mound.
Rolie Zepeda would come in to close out the game in the 7th to keep it 19-4.
Cruz would lead the way at the plate going 2for3 and scoring 5 times. Jeremy Rodriguez would go 4for6 with a double.
Jacob Asebedo would go 1for2. Zepeda would go 2for5 with a triple.
Kris Bryan would go 2for6.
RayJ Garza and Eddie Villarreal would both go 1for5 to round out the offensive attack. The Bulldogs would not help themselves out on defense as they committed 11 errors on the night giving the Lions plenty of chances.
On Thursday March 28th the Lions would then travel to Port Aransas to tangle with the Marlins who were also 5-0 in the first half of district play.
The Lions would come out on the short side of the stick as the Marlins would turn 4 Lions errors into 4 unearned runs through 6 innings and take the district lead at 6-0 on the first half finish.
The 5-0 loss was Dominic Cruz second loss of the year and first in district play as he pitched all 6 innings striking out 10 and walking 1 behind 5 hits.
What was non existent was the Lions offense as they just were able to get 1 hit off Senior starter Tyler Pate who pitched the complete game shut out and 5-0 win.
The lone hit was by Jeremy Rodriguez who went 1for3.
Even though the Lions did hit some balls hard they would be right at someone and they were not able to take advantage of the three Marlins errors as Pate would strike 13 Lions batters out.
With the loss the Lions now stand in second place in district standings at 5-1 and 14-3 overall for the year.
Now the Lions will look to redeem themselves in the second half and look to sweep the six games and force a place off game with Port A for first place.
So circle your calendars for April 20th for this is when Port A comes to Kenedy for a 1:00 show down.
Next up is the Falls City Beavers for a Wednesday afternoon game at 4:30 due to testing this week and then a short trip to Runge for a 4:30 start on Friday.
