Beeville — Start making plans to participate in the 9th annual Tri-County Commercial Female and Bull Sale, to be held at noon on Friday, April 5, at the Beeville Livestock Commission.

Priority will be extended to consignments producers who own or lease property in the Tri-County area of Bee, Goliad and Refugio counties and those counties surrounding, including Aransas, Calhoun, De Witt, Live Oak, Karnes, San Patricio and Victoria.

The sale is sponsored by the Tri-County Commercial Female Sale Steering Committee. Other sponsors for the event include: Ag Med Supply, Beeville Livestock Commission, Lyssy and Eckel Feeds and Silveus Rangeland Insurance.

Consigners are strongly encouraged to consign their best quality animals according to their production standards. All cattle will first be inspected by the sifting committee before being allowed to participate in the sale. Females must be between 8 and 48 months of age and defined as purebred, registered, or crossbred. Females must be weaned and backgrounding is encouraged. Females over 24 months of age must be bred or have calf-at-side. All females over 18 months must be brucellosis tested or and palpated within 30 days prior to the sale (those between 8 and 18 months must be calf-hood vaccinated). Bulls will also be accepted on consignment.

Consigners will be charged a commitment fee of $10 per head and the Sale commission rate will be 5%.

Some goals of this effort are: 1) To provide quality cow/calf producers an opportunity to present cattle to the region and to increase awareness and appreciation for cattle raised in and around the Tri-County area; 2) To develop alternative markets for the quality cow/calf producers and attract prospective buyers from South and Central Texas; 3) To provide females produced in and around the Tri-County area to Tri-County area ranchers; 4) To provide a quality educational component to producers in the area.
