Tigers slip by Bobcats

GOLIAD — The Bobcats got off to a strong start against the Goliad Tigers Friday, Jan. 4, taking the lead at the end of three quarters before the Tigers fired up to slip by Refugio 49-46.

At the end of the first quarter of play, the Bobcats were ahead, 19-12.

The Tigers surged in the second quarter, out scoring the Bobcats by 16 points to the Bobcats 12. At the half, Refugio lead 31-28.

Refugio held on to their 3-point lead going into the fourth quarter as both teams scored nine points each in the third quarter.

In the final quarter of play, the Bobcats could only muster six points all of which came off free throws.

“Many opportunities were missed as the ball just would not go in,” said coach Eli Boxell.

The Tigers were able to overcome the 3-point deficit and scored 11 in the fourth quarter to win the game 49-46.

Scoring for the Cats were Brett Davis, 11 points; Logan Myers and Tevin Nash, eight each; Travis Quintanilla, seven; James Durst, seven; and JB Brown, five.
