Charles “Jack” Lane, 82, of George West died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Lane was born Feb. 17, 1931, in George West to Rufus and Allie (Umphres) Lane. He was a plumber and self-employed owner/operator of Chuck Lane Plumbing. He was a Baptist and a member of George West Lions Club and was an outdoorsman, scout leader and a coach and umpire for both baseball and softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rufus “Dude” Lane Jr. and Steven Lane; a sister, Nelda Pawelek; and a daughter, Deborah Lane.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Bethune) Lane of George West; three sons, Mark (Annie) Lane of Nebraska, Dennis (Vickie) Lane of Colorado, and Stephen (Kathy) Lane of California; two daughters, Donna Eampietro and Diana (Michael) Fitzpatrick, both of California; a step-son, Kenneth (Chantal) Clay of Nevada; three brothers, Billy (Barbara Jean) Lane of Alice, Daryl (Barbara Nell) Lane of Mathis and Jimmie (Mary) Lane of George West; a sister, Aletha Jo (Dale) Ecton of San Antonio; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 2, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West.

A graveside service was conducted Tuesday, Sept. 3, at George West Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Jared Lane, Kevin Clay, Tommy Lane, Michael Pawelek, Chris Gass, Charles M. Lane and Christopher Lane.
