As have many community newspaper websites across the nation, will install a paywall on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Much of the site’s content will remain accessible to all outside the paywall – including videos, classified ads, banner ads, blogs, contests, section pages and more.

Subscribers and nonsubscribers alike will be able to browse the section pages such as sports or obituary pages for each of our communities and read the headlines and at least the first paragraph of the stories. It is only when wanting to read the whole story that readers will either have to login or subscribe for a day, three months or for a year.

We believe provides unique coverage of the people in a six-county region of South Texas that otherwise receive little to no coverage.

At the end of the day, our reporters want to be paid for their work product and, indeed, deserve to be paid. In small markets across the nation, the free access business model hasn’t proven itself sustainable on a widespread basis.

We, Beeville Publishing Company, recognize that there are now many ways for readers to receive the news. Toward that end, we offer our traditional newspaper products, our e-editions, and online and in mobile form.
