GW Band receive sixth straight UIL Sweepstakes

The GW Band received Superior Ratings in both Concert and Sight-Reading portions of the competition. A true Sweepstakes award is earned when a High School band receives superior ratings at Marching Contest, Concert and Sight-Reading contest. This makes the sixth consecutive year that band has received a Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes is the highest award a band can receive through UIL.

On Thursday, March 28, the Longhorn Band traveled to Sinton to compete in its annual UIL Concert & Sight-Reading contest. The band received Superior Ratings in both Concert and Sight-Reading portions of the competition. A true Sweepstakes award is earned when a High School band receives superior ratings at Marching Contest, Concert and Sight-Reading contest. This makes the sixth consecutive year that band has received a Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes is the highest award a band can receive through UIL. Of all the bands who had performed so far in the competition on Thursday, GWHS had the highest scores.

This year the band has brought home straight superior ratings from each of the three judges in each of the three contests!

Marching Contest: 1-1-1 Concert: 1-1-1 Sight-Reading: 1-1-1

Music performed by the GW Band for this competition was “Marche Indienne” by Sellenick, “Greensleeves” by Reed, and “Dancing at Stonehenge” by Suter. The musical program was a difficult one, but the students were indeed rewarded for a job well done.
