GEORGE WEST – The Marble Gang – that’s what residents in Three Rivers are calling them – has struck again, this time in George West.

George West Police Chief Ray Garcia said three establishments were hit Sunday, Dec. 16.

Cobb’s Pharmacy, Snider’s Motor Co. and the George West Elementary School had their glass doors broken by a marble each. All have repaired the doors at this point.

Garcia said the damage was discovered by police at 10:48 p.m. that day.

“It seems they are using a slingshot,” Garcia said. “We found one marble at each location.”

Garcia said the school had inside and exterior video cameras.

“We have video of the suspected vehicle,” he said.

The video shows a pickup hauling a trailer going by the school on Houston Street (all three establishments are on Houston Street).

Garcia said probably someone in the bed of the pickup shot the marble.

“It’s got to be kids,” he said.

The video can be seen online at

No glass can be seen broken before the pickup passes, but afterward, the glass can be seen.

Garcia said the school’s door repairs added up to $420 damage.

If all the damage adds up to, or more than, $1,500, then the criminal mischief offense becomes a state felony charge, punishable by 180 days in jail up to two years and a fine not to exceed $10,000, as well as restitution.

The George West offenses were not the first for the so-called Marble Gang.” Three Rivers, too, had three incidents.

On Nov. 23, at 9 a.m., a marble was found at the Goodie Box in the 200 block of Thornton Street where the business’ glass door was shattered, according to Police Officer Alberto Carrion.

On the same day at 10:40 a.m., the Three Rivers High School also reported a shattered glass door. Again, a marble was found at the scene, according to Carrion.

Again, on the same day at noon, in the 600 block of Blair, a resident – Bobby Pena – reported his car’s back window was shattered.

A search of the area resulted in the discovery of yet another marble.
