A Dodge Ram 2500 pickup was in a head-on collission on the U.S. Highway 72 bridge near Tips RV Park. The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. Monday. The driver of the 2500 pickup was in critical condition and the driver of the Ram 1500 pickup, with non-life-threatening injuries, were transporter by helicopter to area hospitals. No other people were involved in the accident.

THREE RIVERS – Two men were injured in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 72 about 1:15 p.m. Monday.

The crash happened on the U.S. Highway 72 bridge by Tips Park.

William John Heyden, 30, of Ellis, was driving a white Dodge Ram 1500 traveling west, and it veered over into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into a white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, driven by Steven Quin Walters, 50, of Three Rivers. The drivers were the only people in the vehicles.

The Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department used the JAWS of Life to extricate both drivers.

AirLife transported the crash victims to University Hospital in San Antonio.

Walters, the driver of the 2500 pickup, had chest injuries, while the driver of the Ram 1500 pickup had a broken leg and a busted knee cap.

Responding to the wreck were the Three Rivers Police Department, Live Oak County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety troopers, Live Oak County Fire Department, George West Volunteer Fire Department, Acadian ambulance services and the Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department.
