Suspect held on $80,000 bond after stealing police cruiser

Raul Reyes Jr., 26, is being held on an $80,000 bond after stealing a Floresville police car on June 23 in Live Oak County.

According to the arrest report, the suspect has one charge of motion to revoke-burglary of habitation in Wilson County, one charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle in Live Oak County, one charge of evading arrest detention with a vehicle in Live Oak County and one charge of evading arrest with a previous conviction in Live Oak County.

According to a Live Oak County Sheriff’s report, Reyes was originally pulled over about 2:30 p.m. on IH 37 just south of Love’s Travel Stop and U.S. Highway 281 for speeding.

While Sheriff’s Deputy Cpl. Carlos Martinez ran his driver’s license, name and date of birth, Reyes fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a female passenger, according to the report.

Martinez requested a tracking dog and was advised the Floresville Police Department was sending an officer with a dog and San Antonio was sending a police chopper.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., authorities in the chopper said that Reyes was spotted and was running back toward the patrol unit and the Floresville unit that was then on scene.

He stole the Floresville car and drove northbound on the east access road heading toward Atascosa County. The stolen car reached speeds of 120 mph, according to the report.

Ground patrol units from Atascosa, McMullen and Live Oak counties were part of the chase as well as units from the San Antonio DPS.

Reyes abandoned the stolen car north of a rest stop on the eastbound side of IH 37 and again fled into the brush on foot.

After a short standoff, officers arrested Reyes unarmed at 4:46 p.m.

It was discovered that Reyes was on probation from Wilson County.

The female suspect, Tanya Yvonne Hernandez, 24, who was in his car at the time of the stop also was arrested. She was charged with hindering apprehension/prosecution known felon and was released on $10,000 bond according to the arrest report.
