The win improves the Lady Trojan varsity record to 10-0-1 on the season.
“We had a lot of girls playing and gaining some valuable varsity experience. At one time, we had seven freshmen out there,” said Lady Trojan head coach Johnny Gonzales.
The passing game, experience and speed of the Lady Trojans took effect right away as they scored four goals over the first eight plus minutes of the game.
Tori Munoz got the first goal of the contest with 37:11 left to play. Mary Larakers followed at 36:21 and then Victoria Elizalde kicked one in at 33:57. Heather McKinney made it 4-0 with a curving kick past the Robstown keeper at 31:33.
The Lady Trojans settled back and worked on their defensive passing game but they weren’t quite done with their first half scoring attack. Celeste Contreras got open in front of the Robstown goal and hit the back of the net with 4:52 left in the first 40 minutes to take the Beeville girls into the intermission leading 5-0.
The defensive prowess of Taylor Lawson, Carissa Elizalde, Sydney Wesson and Claire McKinney helped keep Lady Trojan keeper Randi Maupin out of harm’s way and the Cotton Pickers were unable to get a shot-on-goal over the first half of play.
“We did work a great deal on passing the ball on defense. We have to get faster at that aspect of the game,” said coach Gonzales.
The first team of Lady Trojans played sparingly over the second half but the goals kept coming. Natalie Elder made it a 6-0 match with just a minute and a half gone. Elder scored again on a header to get the scoreboard up to 7-0 at the 35:51 mark of the second half. Morgan McKinney took a pass from sister Heather McKinney and beat the Robstown keeper for an 8-0 lead with 31:33 left in the second half.
The bench was cleared and everyone suited got plenty of time on the field the rest of the way. Alisa Patterson kicked one in at 24:22 for a 9-0 Beeville lead. Randi Maupin came all the way from her keeper position to try a penalty kick at 10:07 and had no trouble beating the Cotton Picker goal keeper for a 10-0 lead.
Contreras scored the last goal of the first half and she scored the final goal of the game with just 3:48 left to lay to make the final an 11-0 victory for the Beeville ladies.
The Lady Trojans play Alice on Tuesday night with the JV squad hitting the field at 5 p.m. The varsity contest will begin at approximately 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
