I, Ida Ramirez, am pleased to announce my candidacy for the office of Refugio County Clerk in the March 2 Democratic Primary Election.
I was born and raised in Refugio. I graduated from Refugio High School in 1975 and attended Bee County College.
I have been married to Johnny Ramirez for 28 years, who was born and raised in Refugio. We have four children - Preston, Will, Luke and Lindsay, all of whom are Refugio Bobcat graduates.
Preston is self-employed in the Oil field business with his father. Luke also works with his dad. Will is attending Texas A&M-College Station, and Lindsay is in her second year at DelMar College in Corpus Christi. We are, and have been for many years, members of St. James Catholic Church in Refugio.
I believe that experience is the single most important qualification that any candidate can bring to any elective office he or she is seeking, and believe my extensive experience in the office of the Refugio County Clerk uniquely qualifies me for the clerk’s position.
I have worked in the county clerk’s office for over 33 years, having been hired in 1976 by Mrs. Rebekah Scott as a deputy county clerk.
In January, 1986, I was appointed chief deputy county clerk by Mrs. Scott. I was also chief deputy clerk for Mrs. Janelle Morgan from 1987 to 2002.
I am presently the chief deputy to Mrs. Ruby Garcia. Over the last 33 years I have gained substantial knowledge and experience in all operations of the county clerk’s office, including (1) filing and maintaining the public records (including real property records, marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, probate records and other public records); (2) attending and maintaining the records of the commissioner’s court, county court, juvenile court, probate court and civil and criminal court; (3) participating in and maintaining the records of elections; (4) handling and accounting of public funds; and (5) developing and working with the county clerk’s annual budget.
My experience has allowed me to work with and learn from many, many public officials over the years, including the clerks and office personnel of other Refugio County offices, county commissioners, county judges, and county attorneys, and various other officials with the towns of Refugio, Woodsboro, Bayside, Austwell and Tivoli.
I am humbled by the opportunity to have worked with so many talented, dedicated, and knowledgeable people through the years.
I have always worked to see that this office provides the best, most helpful, and courteous service to the residents of Refugio County and others having business with this office.
I believe the citizens deserve it, since their tax dollars fund this office and the public servants who staff this office. I pledge to continue in that endeavor, as your county clerk.
I pledge to continue an open-door policy, to remain available and receptive to constructive ideas and suggestions for further improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the county clerk’s office.
Please consider my qualifications. I respectfully request your support and your vote on March 2, and I will remain available for any questions you may have.
