“It was a good win. We needed it,” said Lady Trojan head coach Chuck Youngblood.
The Beeville girls led by 10 at the end of the first quarter at 14-4. The Lady Trojan defense was suffocating in the first half and limited the visitors to nine points. The hosts were led by 11 first half points from point guard Victoria Elizalde as they took a 24-9 lead into halftime.
Sinton recorded eight points in the third period with the Beeville girls adding another 10 to hold a 17-point margin at 34-17.
The Lady Pirates made a game of it and cut the lead to eight points at 36-28 with 2:24 left to play. The Lady Trojans slowed things down and the shots that were dropping for the Pirates clanged off the rim the rest of the way.
Elizalde finished the game with a team-high 18 points. Chelsea Contreras was also in double figures with 10. Randi Maupin contributed four points in limited time on the floor due to early foul problems.
Alisa Patterson, Theresa Amador and Krista Gonzales all sank two points in the win. Courtney Perez finished with one free throw.
The Lady Trojans will be at home on Monday when the Ladycats from Calallen invade the JHS gymnasiums. The first tip is set for 5 p.m.
