Tigerettes take second at Goliad tournament

GOLIAD – The Goliad Tigerettes fell to the Victoria St. Joseph Lady Flyers 25-20, 25-17 in the championship game of the Goliad Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

The Tigerettes won five of six matches. Goliad defeated Shiner 25-6, 25-7; George West 25-13, 25-6; and Gonzales 25-4, 25-18 in pool play Thursday.

On Saturday, the Tigerettes rallied to defeat Taft 22-25, 25-14, 25-16 and beat Rockport-Fulton 26-24, 25-15 to reach the championship game.

Goliad’s Megan Hilscher and Roxanne Morris were named to the all-tournament team. St. Joseph’s Christine Janak was chosen tournament MVP.

Morris had 57 kills, 21 digs, five service aces, 36 assists and eight blocks for the tournament. Hilscher tallied 23 kills, 45 digs, seven service aces and one block.

Michala Janssen (six kills, 27 digs, four service aces, one block), Kendall Coles (three kills, 17 digs, five service aces, 66 assists), Kristie Coles (19 digs, four service aces), Bethany Salziger (10 kills, 26 digs, five service aces, nine blocks), Katy Salziger (six kills, four blocks) and Bailey Janssen (seven kills, four blocks) also led the Tigerettes.
