Representatives of AirLife presented Ebrom with the award for EMS Person of the Year at their annual “Leaders in Emergency Care” recognition dinner Aug. 15.
“Casey Ebrom has assisted in the transition of Karnes County EMS by leading his crews headfirst into the surge of growth seen in their community by Eagle Ford Shale drilling activity,” said an AirLIFE representative during the presentation. “With the support of his director and local county government, they have expanded their service and enhanced their team to elevate their availability and care to their community.”
“Casey strives to provide high quality care and continued commitment to excellence.”
“The purpose of this annual event is for the staff of AirLIFE to recognize individuals and agencies within our service area that demonstrate excellence in the provision of emergency healthcare, patient advocacy, and leadership in healthcare system development,” said AirLIFE President and CEO Shawn Salter.
All of those recognized were chosen by AirLIFE flight nurses, flight paramedics and flight communicators based on interactions they had experienced with hospitals, EMS agencies and individuals in emergency medicine during the previous year.
Ebrom said he was very surprised and deeply honored to be recognized for his work, especially considering the AirLIFE service covers a very large part of South Texas where hundreds of EMS workers work with AirLIFE crews to make sure people get the highest quality of emergency healthcare.
His work with Karnes County EMS began in October of 2010 as an EMT, Ebrom said. He became a paramedic in February of 2013 and has been working for Karnes County EMS and helping improve the quality of local EMS services ever since.
“It has been a good experience here,” Ebrom said. “It has been a good transition here, going full time. Essentially we can do everything that the ER can do now, with all the medications we can do that now in the truck. I am glad we have got that on board now.”
He hopes to expand the outreach efforts of Karnes County EMS, Ebrom said, in the months and years to come, as a way to play a part in bringing the highest quality of healthcare to the people of Karnes County.
Ebrom is a resident of Karnes City, is a graduate of the Karnes City High School Class of 2010 and is the son of John and Geralyn Ebrom of Karnes City.
