County Judge David Bowman said the Keetch-Byram Drought Index was at 557 on Saturday and is projected to rise to 649 over the next 14 days. The index rates conditions from zero to 800.
Precinct 4 Commis-sioner Ted Long cast the lone dissenting vote.
The court unanimously approved raising mileage reimbursement from 50.5 cents per mile to 53 cents per mile for the 2015 fiscal year. Bowman earlier opposed the raise, but the court voted 3-2 against keeping the rate at 50.5 cents, which is what the county has reimbursed per mile for the past three years.
The court tabled discussion of reclassifying justice of the peace clerks as administrative assistants. The court unanimously approved the recommendation of Coral Bay Energy’s Steffi Arnold to enter in a 48-month contract with GDF-Suez Energy.
The court also unanimously approved the contract between the county and D. Ross Braune for counseling juveniles under supervision and a state transportation grant agreement with the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission.
The court also set the first budget hearing for Aug. 20.
