Vernon L. Yanta died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1939, in Runge to John Andrew and Mary (Pollok) Yanta. He received his bachelors degree from Texas A&M University and served in the United States Air Force. He also served on the Runge ISD school board and the Ecleto Creek Watershed Committee for many years. He married Valida “Val” (Gagne) Yanta on July 10, 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Val T. Yanta; children, Jim (Laurette) Yanta of Poth, Bruce Yanta of Houston, Michael (Carrie) Yanta and Karen (Alan) Watson, both of Sugar Land, Steven Yanta of Floresville, Eric (Suzi) Yanta of Spicewood, John Yanta of Runge and Sharon (Jason) Hans of Boerne; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Valeria Ebeier; and brothers, Ernest Yanta, Wilfred Yanta, Bishop John Yanta and Joe James Yanta.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edwin and Fabian Yanta.

Visitation began on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 5 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge with a rosary recited at 7 o’clock that evening.

The funeral Mass was celebrated there Friday, Aug. 8, at 10:30 a.m.

Interment followed in the Runge Catholic Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Jim Yanta, Bruce Yanta, Michael Yanta, Steven Yanta, Eric Yanta, John Yanta and Garrett Yanta.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Reiman, David Reynolds, Zachary Yanta, Kenneth Foster, Bobby Ebeier, Sandy Ebeier and Gene Vaughan.

Arrangements were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home.
