BEEVILLE – The City Council is looking for a few good men and women who would want to serve as members of the city’s boards and commissions.

Traditionally, council members have nominated individuals to fill vacancies on bodies like the Beeville Economic Improvement Corporation, Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission and Traffic Safety Commission.

Most often, board and commission members have simply been reappointed if they expressed a desire to serve an additional term.

Whenever new members were needed to replace members who had moved from the city or who no longer wished to serve, council members would nominate someone who had expressed a desire to serve.

Recently, the council approved an application method that would give interested city residents an opportunity to come forward and offer their services.

To make sure the council picked the right person for the job, they decided to provide an application for those interested in volunteering for a board position.

Anyone interested in applying for an appointment by the council should contact the city secretary’s office at 358-4641 to pick up an application.

The office is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays.

Interested persons may pick up a copy of the application between Aug. 1 and Aug. 22.
