REFUGIO – A rabies drive Friday, Aug. 1, will be followed by a spay and neuter fundraiser on Aug. 9, according to Dr. Lois Duelburg, Austwell veterinarian.

The rabies drive will take place at Refugio City Hall on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pets must be at least 3 months old to receive a rabies vaccination, Duelburg said.

Additional vaccinations will be available for DHLPP, kennel cough and rattlesnake for dogs, and FeLV and FVRCP for cats.

The rabies shots are $7 each. Also, city residents will be asked to renew their pets’ city tags for 2014.

Duelburg added that for the remainder of 2014, the rabies drives would take place on the first Friday of each month at Refugio City Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Duelburg said to help quality of life for pets in Refugio County, a beach party fundraiser is planned for the Wilson Heard Pavilion in Austwell on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 5-9 p.m.

Live music, hot dogs and sodas will be available, as well as face painting and a fish pond for toddlers.

“Wear your beach garb,” Duelburg said.

All proceeds will go toward Refugio County’s spay and neuter program.
