Man arrested after Wednesday break-in, assault in Berclair

BERCLAIR – A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after being suspected of breaking into a Berclair home and assaulting a female resident.

According to the Goliad County Sheriff's Office, Juanito John Rojas of Berclair was arrested in Victoria and awaited transfer to the Goliad County Jail.

GCSO deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Mission Ave. in Berclair at 3:43 a.m. Wednesday. An investigation revealed a male suspect had entered the residence by opening an unlocked window on the north side.

The suspect found the woman asleep and attacked her. According to the report, the woman tried to call 9-1-1 with her cell phone, but the suspect took the phone from her and fled the residence.

The victim then went to a neighbor's home to call 9-1-1.

The victim said she did not know the suspect's name. The vistim picked Rojas from a photo lineup provide by the GCSO.

Rojas has been charged with first-degree felony burglary with an enhanced charge of assault and robbery for taking the cell phone.
