REFUGIO COUNTY – Democratic Party Chairman Bernice Macias reported that the Democratic Party Refugio County Committee met noon Monday, June 16, and appointed candidates to run in the Nov. 4 General Election.

The Democratic candidates appointed included Precinct 2 county commissioner candidate Wayne Schubert and county treasurer candidate Rita Trojek.

Macias said anyone else wanting to run for those offices on the Democratic ticket would have to run as a write-in.

July 19 is the first day to declare write-in candidacy. The last day to be declared a write-in is Aug. 18.

The two county elected officials’ positions came open after incumbents Precinct 2 Commissioner Stanley Tuttle and County Treasurer Elaine Henning, both Democrats, voted in the March Republican Primary, an action against the Election Code, making them disqualified to run again for their offices.
