KARNES CITY – FM 2724 in Karnes County has reopened to traffic following the complete replacement of a damaged bridge across Cibolo Creek near Panna Maria, the Texas Department of Transportation Corpus Christi District announced today.

With two, 12-foot-wide travel lanes and 3-foot-wide shoulders, the new, concrete bridge is wider, longer and designed to be safer than the old structure, which had two, 12-foot-wide travel lanes and no shoulders. The old bridge was so heavily damaged by high water and debris that it had to be completely replaced at a cost of about $1.4 million.

The approaches to the new bridge also were improved and now have two, 12-foot-wide travel lanes and 2-foot-wide shoulders.
