BEEVILLE – Beeville’s crime prevention specialist has been promoted to detective sergeant.

Greg Baron has been assigned to the Beeville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Team as a detective for some time, but he had not been promoted to sergeant.

The promotion became possible after some shifts were made among BPD investigators.

A native of New York, Baron has been with the BPD since 2009.

Before that he worked as a deputy sheriff in Nueces County for nine years and with the Refugio Police Department for about five months.

In addition to those activities, Baron has been involved with the department’s community outreach and is the instructor of the BPD’s Civilian Police Academy.

Baron also is a member of the bicycle patrol unit, the ATV patrol unit and is a hostage negotiator.

Eventually, Baron said he would like to become the BPD’s training coordinator.
