Beeville – The Coastal Bend Community Foundation (CBCF) announced recently that $150,000 in grant awards were given under its 2014 Special Grant Program, “Community Venues,” and the Beeville Community Chorus was one of the recipients this year, receiving part of the grant to purchase equipment (music stands, music, director podium).

The Special Grants program features a different theme each year, selected by the CBCF board of directors to support the foundation’s mission to “enhance the quality of life in the Coastal Bend.”

“We are pleased to announce these awards for the support of infrastructure projects to a wide variety of community venues,” says Karen Selim, president & CEO. “The Coastal Bend communities enjoy a rich diversity of cultural, historical and educational sites. These resources are maintained by nonprofits for the benefit, education and enjoyment of area residents and tourists as well, and CBCF is delighted to be able to support these projects to enhance them.”

Ten grants were awarded in a presentation ceremony May 28. Individual grant amounts vary from $1,400 to $40,000.

“With many deserving projects submitted for consideration, it is always a challenge to select the awardees,” acknowledges Jon Whatley, CBCF Grants Committee chair. “Two key committee goals are the project distribution throughout our seven-county service area and the individual project ability to complete, with the addition of our award.”
