Mrs. Loya was born March 18, 1935, in Refugio to Jose and Eva Serrata.
On Feb. 3, 1957, she married Arturo “Art” S. Loya at St. James Catholic Church.
She was employed by the Texas Department of Human Resources for 30 years and later worked for the Refugio County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years. She was a member of Refugio’s V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 6290.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jose Jr., Mike and Albert Serrata.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years; son, David (Patricia) of Missouri City; daughters, Robbie (the late Bebe) Ramirez of Refugio and Michelle (Tony) Resendez of Victoria; brother, Richard Serrata; sisters, Tillie Serrata, Cindy Johnson and Kathy (Jimmy) Garza, all of Refugio, Helen Quinonez of Houston and Frances (Jesus) Lopez of Dallas; grandchildren, Marcus, Bryan and Kristyn Resendez, Jacob Loya and Thomas Ramirez; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Moore Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4.
A rosary was recited at St. James Catholic Church in Refugio at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Thursday, June 5) at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. The burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Refugio.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Marcus and Bryan Resendez, Jacob Loya and Thomas Ramirez and nephews Ricky Serrata and Chris Garza.
