KARNES COUNTY – Voters will get a chance to listen to candidates running for three county offices speak and respond to questions during a debate set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19.

The Karnes Countywide is joining with Radio KAML 990 AM and KTNR 92.1 FM to bring a Candidates Forum and Debate to the Karnes City High School Auditorium.

Admission is free and open to the general public.

Ten candidates for the offices of county judge, county commissioner and county clerk have been invited to share the stage with moderator Cletus Bianchi to field questions submitted by local media and the general public.

Invitations to all 10 candidates were mailed this week.

For the office of county judge, Democrat incumbent Barbara Najvar Shaw and challenger Walter R. Long, Jr. have been invited as well as Republican candidate Maurice A. Yarter.

For the office of precinct 2 county commissioner, Democrat incumbent A. T. Pete Jauer has been invited. Jauer is running unopposed.

For the office of precinct 4 county commissioner, Democrat candidates Adrian Yanta, David Reynolds, Sharon Chesser and Brenda Hansler have all been invited.

For the office of county clerk, Democrat incumbent Carol Swize and challenger Maggie Gonzales have been invited.

Candidates will make opening statements and then answer questions, most of which will come from the general public, and only questions that are addressed to all the candidates in a given race, will be selected. After responding to as many questions as time allows, candidates will make closing statements.

Written questions for the candidates can be submitted by email to: karneseditor@mysoutex.com, by fax to: 830-583-0285, by mail to The Karnes Countywide, 111 S. Second Street, Kenedy, TX 781119, or they can be brought to the event.

The event will be broadcast live on KAML Radio 990 AM and KTNR 92.1 FM. Video of the event will be live and streaming online at www.ustream.tv/the-karnes-countywide.
