GOLIAD – Debby Brumby has filed for the Goliad County/District Clerk’s position.

Brumby, wife of Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby, filed as a Republican.

Brumby currently serves as secretary of the Goliad County Water Supply Corporation and a director of Coastal Bend Crime Stoppers and the Goliad Education Foundation.

Brumby said she wants to raise the level of efficiency of the office.

“I believe that government should provide its services in the most efficient and cost-effective methods to help the patrons but also the taxpayers,” Brumby said. “I feel I can make improvements to the clerk’s office in both of these areas.”

Brumby, who also serves on the Goliad Astron Club, Goliad Remembers, and Spirit of Goliad Republican Women, said she wants to utilize technological advances to improve communication between county entities.

“In 2009, NET DATA was installed in the clerk’s office along with the JP offices and the tax assessor’s office,” Brumby said. “This program is costing the county a lot of money, and yet it is not being utilized to the fullest. I want to use IT to the fullest to increase efficiency and get ahead of the coming state mandates which will impact all the county offices that deal with the state.”

Current county/district clerk Mary Ellen Flores has filed for re-election on the Democratic ticket.

The primary election is March 4 with the general election scheduled for Nov. 4.
