KARNES CITY – The Karnes City Council held a special meeting on Jan. 9 to appoint Mayor Pro-Tem Leroy Skloss to the position of mayor until the upcoming general elections on May 10. Skloss will now serve as mayor to fulfill the mayorship term vacated by now City Manager Don Tymrak this past April, when Tyrak resigned as mayor in order to serve as city manager. Tymrak’s vacated mayor term that Skloss is now appointed with runs through until the May elections.

The council unanimously approved Skloss to his new position of leadership within the growing and changing city.

“That makes me feel good that the council voted unanimously to do that,” reflected Skloss after the meeting. “Having their support is very important in a position like that. I was honored that they decided to do that.”

Skloss has served on the city council since 2002 and has specifically served as mayor pro-tem since 2005.

“I will fulfill that (mayor) position until the expiration in May and it will be the end of this current term,” explained Skloss of his new appointment. “It’s exciting. It’s coming at a time when there is a lot of potential for the City of Karnes City with all that’s beginning to happen, and hopefully a much brighter future going down the road.”

Skloss has not yet decided if he will run for mayor for the May 10 elections.

Also at the meeting, Councilman Jimmy D. Loya, Sr. was appointed as the new mayor pro-tem. Mary Kruciak was also appointed as councilwoman to replace the District 4 council seat position vacated by Skloss. Kruciak will fill the council seat until the May 10 elections. Kruciak had previously served on the City Council from 2004-2010.
