And once again, the Blues will returning to skies over South Texas as the feature act for NAS Kingsville’s “Wings Over South Texas 2014” air show March 29-30.
“We view our bi-annual air show as a base-and-community event,” said NAS Kignsville Commanding Officer Capt. Christopher Misner, “celebrating not only NAS Kingsville’s role in training naval aviators for the fleet, but also the unmatched support this air station has received from the local community for more than 70 years. The City of Kingsville, Kleberg County, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, the King Ranch, and a host of local businesses from throughout South Texas are standing behind us as we begin to promote our 2014 show, proving once again that Kingsville and Kleberg Country do, indeed, love “Jet Noise.”
Among the acts that have agreed to participate is aerobatic superstar Rob Holland, who performs at air shows around the world in his MX-2 aircraft. He is the 2011, 2012 and 2013 U.S. National Aerobatic Champion, 2011 and 2013 World Freestyle Champion, and four-time U.S. National Freestyle Champion.
Holland has already posted the NAS Kingsville Air Show on his website and Facebook pages, adding, “I am really looking forward to coming back to NAS Kingsville.”
Another act in place is the Disabled American Veterans and their B-25 Mitchell Bomber. The DAV team performed in the 2012 Wings Over South Texas show and were a big hit with air show enthusiasts.
The B-25, which gained notoriety in the famed Doolittle Raid over Tokyo, Japan 71 years ago, shares a modern-day mission with DAV—reminding people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom. As brave men and women return from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAV’s services and advocacy are as relevant today as at any time in the nation’s history.
More performing acts will be announced over the next few weeks as the NAS Kingsville Air Show team tightens up its schedule and begins to put the pieces to the puzzle in place.
