REFUGIO – A man was seriously injured when the RV he was working under rolled and pinned him on Monday morning, Dec. 30.

Phil MacGrandle, believed to be a winter Texan on his way to the Texas Valley, was underneath his Nomad RV when his Hyundai Santa Fe rolled and pulled the RV to pin him underneath.

Both the vehicle and RV had markings indicating they were purchased in Brownsville or McAllen although his cell phone area code was a Houston number.

An eyewitness to the accident, Nerissa Salinas of Refugio, said she was in line to order some food at McDonald’s Restaurant when she saw MacGrandle underneath the RV at around 11:20 a.m.

“I heard him yelling. I moved his car back,” she said.

MacGrandle’s two small dogs were in the vehicle. And Salinas said she believes the dogs somehow put the vehicle in neutral.

Refugio’s emergency medical tech units, Refugio Fire Department personnel and Refugio police responded to the scene.

MacGrandle was carefully pulled out from under the RV and placed in an ambulance. He was taken to the Refugio County Memorial Hospital.

MacGrandle is believed to have a broken right leg and several abrasions but no life-threatening injuries.
