Audrey Carranco was named to the all-tournament team as she posted a rare triple-double. Carranco had 10 steals, 11 rebounds and 15 points. Ciara Garcia had a double-double as she posted 18 rebounds and 15 points and was also named to the all-tournament team. Freshman Jocelyn Guzman had a double-double with 14 rebounds and 16 points.
Other stellar performances, according to head coach Lisa Hess, included Marissa Rodriguez with six points and five steals, Mackenzie Harvey with three points, Margaret Downing and Alyssa Medina, both with two points.
The Lady Trojans were down 29-28 at half-time but came back to win 58-55 over the Lady Badgers.
“We had fewer turnovers and better rebounding. More balanced scoring and a total team effort brought us the victory,” Hess said.
In earlier action, district foe Calallen defeated the Lady Trojans 43-36. Garcia had another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Carranco posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Guzman scored six points and hauled in five rebounds. Margaret Downing contributed five points and seven rebounds. Freshman Alyssa Medina chipped in two points.
“We shot 28 percent and did not close out on their shooters. We also shot less than 50 percent from the charity line,” Hess said.
In the first game of the tournament, the Lady Trojans defeated Falfurrias JV by a score of 54-2. Garcia posted 18 points, Sophia Galindo made eight points, Downing produced eight, Carranco five, Anjelika Benavidez and Guzman four each, Mari Gonzales three, and Rodriguez and Medina, two apiece.
In the second game, Beeville defeated Riviera 60-29. Carranco was high scorer with 20 points. Garcia scored 17 points, Medina had five, Rodriguez, Guzman and Galindo, four points apiece, and Mackenzie Harvey, Mari Gonzales, and Anjelika Benavidez contributed two each.
The Lady Trojans will return to the court on Dec. 27 when they travel to West Oso to play in the Lady Bears tournament.
