“It was a good win coming back from the holiday break. Defensively, it was our best game of the year,” said S-T head coach Bruce Kimball.
The Bobcats led by six, 14-8, after the first period, but the Seahawks scraped two points from the deficit by halftime as the teams went into the locker rooms with the scoreboard reading 26-22 in favor of the home team.
The third period proved to the difference maker. The Cats’ defense arched its back and held the Seahawks to six tallies while the Bobcat offense struck for 12. It was a 38-28 game with the S-T boys holding a double-digit lead.
The teams picked up the pace over the final quarter as they combined to add 31 points. The Bobcats recorded 17 of those points to ease to a 55-42 victory.
The win improves the S-T record to 2-3 on the season.
Aaron Hughes led the Bobcat scoring attack with 19 points. Seth Phillips followed with 11 markers. James Rodriguez and Marcus Sarate both contributed seven points. Cody Leonard followed with six. Fred Guajardo added three, and Ryan Lakso had two.
The Bobcats are in Karnes City this weekend for the Badgers’ varsity tournament that concludes with the Saturday finals. On Tuesday night, the S-T boys will travel to Three Rivers to tangle with the Bulldogs.
