EL CAMPO – The Refugio Bobcats are starting to face some real challenges in the playoffs, but the only real challenge this past Friday night was Mother Nature.

Despite the weather’s havoc, the Bobcats marched through to an Area Championship and a date for the Regional Title. The Bobcats came out charged with Isaiah Perez scoring from 2 yards out.

Tyler Castellano blasted out a huge TD run after a blocked Danbury punt. Danbury answered back quickly to make the score 14-7 after the first quarter of play.

In the second period, Travis Quintanilla, on his way to making history, connected with Devon LaFrance on a 10-yard touchdown pass. Quintanilla then located Marquis Brown on a 38-yard TD pass, making it 28-7 going into the half.

Perez would tally his second touchdown of the night off a 5-yard TD run thanks to a Danbury turnover, to make it 35-7, cranking up the second half.

Quintanilla then capped off a 12-yard touchdown reception to Devon LaFrance. The TD reception broke the all-time career touchdown pass record of 167 in the state of Texas.

Danbury scored once more late in the game, but time wasn’t on their side.

The Bobcats walked away with a 42-13 victory to move forward in the playoffs.

Quintanilla is also sneaking up on another state record that he could break this coming Friday. Quintanilla moved within 215 yards of the all-time career passing yardage record.

Refugio travels to Pridgeon Stadium in Cypress to take on the undefeated Rogers Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. this Friday night.
