Seven local candidates file for places on primary ballot

KARNES COUNTY – Seven local candidates have filed for places on the ballot in the upcoming Democratic primary election set for March 4, 2014.

No local candidate has yet filed for a place on the ballot for the March 4 Republican primary election.

Filing began Nov. 9 and will continue through Dec. 9.

Walter R. Long, 77, has filed for the office of Karnes County Judge. Long is a retired attorney, a resident of Kenedy, and has lived in Karnes County for 52 years and five months.

Carol Swize, 48, has filed for re-election to the office of Karnes County Clerk. Swize currently holds the office of Karnes County Clerk, is a resident of Hobson, and has lived in Karnes County for nine years and six months.

Maggie Gonzales, 34, has filed for the office of Karnes County Clerk. Gonzales is the chief deputy clerk in Bee County, a resident of Kenedy, and has lived in Karnes County for 34 years and four months.

David Sotelo, 46, has filed for re-election to the office of Karnes County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4. Sotelo currently holds the office of Karnes County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, is a resident of Kenedy, and has lived in Karnes County for 46 years and seven months.

Delia “Daisy” Villanueva, 52, has filed for re-election to the office of Karnes County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3. Villanueva currently holds the office of Karnes County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, is a resident of Karnes City, and has lived in Karnes County for 52 years.

Denise Rodriguez, 41, has filed for re-election to the office of Karnes County District Clerk. Rodriguez currently holds the office of Karnes County District Clerk, is a resident of Karnes City, and has lived in Karnes County for 41 years.

Mari Mitchell, 36, has filed for the office of Karnes County Democratic County Chair. Mitchell is a real estate broker, a resident of Karnes City, and has lived in Karnes County for three years and four months.

No candidate has yet filed for either County Commissioner Precinct 2 or County Commissioner Precinct 4.

Several other candidates have filed for offices of local interest.

Tim Kleinschmidt has filed as a Republican for re-election to the office of State Representative District 17. Kleinschmidt currently holds the office of State Representative District 17.

Carrie Moy has filed as a Democrat for the office of District Judge, 218th Judicial District. Moy is a resident of Stockdale.

Trent Rowell has filed as a Democrat for the office of District Judge, 218th Judicial District. Rowell is a resident of Stockdale.

Donna Rayes has filed as a Democrat for re-election to the office of District Judge, 81st Judicial District. Rayes is a a resident of Pleasanton.

Feb. 3 is the last day to register to vote in the March 4 primary elections. Early voting will begin Feb. 18.
