KARNES CITY – Ray Kroll began his responsibilities as the new City Development Manager of Karnes City on Nov.1. Kroll had previously served as executive director of the Karnes County Economic Development since 2008.

The position of city development manager was created as part of the city’s budget for the 2014 fiscal year. On Sept. 17, the City Council unanimously voted to approve the budget, which included the funding for that position. Kroll’s annual salary is starting at $55,000.

As the city development manager, Kroll will be working to manage the great economic and commerce expansion/development the city is currently experiencing, much of it either directly or indirectly due to the changes brought on by the Eagle Ford Shale.

Kroll states that he will be working to build and maintain relationships with commercial and industrial developers, property owners, realtors, brokers and businesses interested in development opportunities within Karnes City.

Kroll will also work to help revitalize downtown and act as a liaison between businesses within the development areas and the city; as well as to provide statistical data, property inventories, feasibility analyses, tours and information about the city.

“I enjoy being a part of improving the quality of life for those that call Karnes County home,” said Kroll about his work. “Change is inevitable. Cities are either growing or dying. The Eagle Ford has brought about a great deal of rapid, uncontrolled growth throughout South Texas. The challenge is controlling the growth with a plan that will result in a sustainable community.”
